The opposition leader, Peter Dutton, has diverted questions about a comment from the frontbenter price of the Jacinta Nampijinpa coalition that promises to “make Australia great.”
Senator Price, the government efficiency spokesman for the coalition, was stopped with Dutton in a campaign manifestation in Perth when he made the comment, echoing the rhetoric used by the president of the United States, Donald Trump.
“We have incredible candidates throughout the country that I am so proud to be next to us, to ensure that we can make Australia great again, that we can bring Australia back to his former glory, that we can re -run Australia again,” Price said on Saturday, to applaud the crowd.
Interpreted by the journalists at a later press conference, Price said: “If I said that, I didn’t even realize that I said that. But no, I’m Australian. I want to make sure Australia reloads to Australia.”
When asked if such comments were useful for the coalition, Dutton directed his response to the cost of living.
“You have families at this time, and we have talked to them here in WA, who cannot pay their energy bill, who cannot pay their insurance bill,” Dutton said.
“I mean, they are making decisions at this time about whether they ensure their home or not, right? So we deal with reality for people. I really think that if we want to improve their lives and we want our country to return to normal, we have to change the government.”
When asked about the implications that this comments are linked to Trump, Dutton said: “I think I have explained what our position is, and this is how we want to help families.”
Dutton confirmed that Price will be in his cabinet, if the coalition is chosen at the May 3 survey.
As the press conference concluded, Price was pressed on what would imply exactly his role.
Price said the role “was not an ode to Donald Trump.”
“Let’s be very, very clear. The media are obsessed with Donald Trump,” he said.
“We are not obsessed with Donald Trump, we are actually obsessed with ensuring that we can improve the circumstances for Australia.”
Price said that in her role, she “cut red and green ribbon” and “would make sure not to provide funds for ridiculous subsidies such as colonizing breastfeeding,” although he did not elaborate.
The senator marked education as a key concern, claiming that students are “learning indoctrination instead of education, which are forced to have to provide a welcome to the country within their essays.”
“I mean, this is absolute nonsense, we are looking,” he said.
Price said Australia was “under attack” for an “armed” vision of the story taught in schools. Dutton then encouraged journalists to continue asking questions.
“Who has not asked Jacinta?” Asked the campaign media package.
When asked if he would eliminate the roles of diversity, equality and inclusion, commonly known as dei roles, in the public service, Price said: “Either race, gender, sexuality, none of that will matter. What will matter is the right person for work.”
Dutton closed the press conference, saying that Price’s comments are “exactly why Jacinta Price will be in a cabinet that leads”, and congratulated her when she left.
When asked about the press conference, the frontbenter Labor Jason Clare said that the relationship between the United States and Australia is “strong” but that Australia “[doesn’t] I need to copy from the United States. “
Price was appointed the government efficiency spokesman of the coalition days after the opening of January 20 of Trump in which he also established the through an executive order.
