According to the activists, an Oscar-winning Palestinian filmmaker was held by the Israeli army in the occupied West Bank.
Hamdan Ballal was previously beaten by Israeli settlers who were among dozens who attacked the Palestinian village of Susya in the Masafer Yatta area and destroyed property, the Center for Jewish Non -Violence said.
The activist group said that Mr. Ballal sustained a bleeding head in the assault, and when treated in an ambulance, he and another Palestinian man were detained.
“We don’t know where Hamdan is because he was taken away in a blindfold,” said 28-year-old Josh Kimelman, who was on the scene.
During the incident, about 10-20 masked settlers allegedly attacked Jewish activists with stones and sticks, beat car windows and tires. One settler swung his fists to two activists before the pair ran back to their vehicle, and the video provided by the Center for Jewish Nonviolence showed.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) told Sky News in a statement that ‘several terrorists threw stones at Israeli citizens on Monday night and damaged their vehicles near Susya’.
The IDF also said that a violent confrontation then broke out with “mutual rock horn between Palestinians and Israelis on the scene”.
“IDF and Israeli police forces showed up to spread the confrontation, at this point, several terrorist stones began to throw stones at the security forces,” according to the statement.
“In response, the powers arrested three Palestinians who allegedly threw stones at them, as well as an Israeli citizen involved in the violent confrontation. The detainees were further questioned by Israeli police. ‘ An Israeli citizen was injured in the incident and was evacuated to receive medical treatment.
“Unlike claims, no Palestinian was detained from within an ambulance.”
Best documentary
Mr. Ballal is one of the co-directors of no other land that won the best documentary Oscar this year.
The film follows residents of Masafer Yatta as they struggle to stop the army of Israel from destroying their villages.
No other country has two Palestinian co-directors, Ballal and Basel Adra, both residents of Masafar Yatta, and two Israeli directors, Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor.
