The Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank have defeated one of the Palestinian directors of the Oscar -winning documentary nothing Land, before being arrested by the Israeli army.
The Israeli army said he was investigating the episode on Monday, but had no immediate comments.
The filmmaker Hamdan Ballal was one of the three Palestinians detained in the town of Susiya, according to lawyer Leah Tsemmel.
Police told him that they were arrested in a military base to receive medical treatment and said he had not been able to talk to them.
Basel Adra, another co -director, witnessed the arrest and said that about two dozen settlers, some masked, some who wore weapons, some with Israeli uniform, attacked the village.
The soldiers who arrived pointed their weapons to the Palestinians, while the settlers continued to throw stones.
“We return from the Oscars and every day, since there is an attack against us,” Adra told Associated Press.
“This could be his revenge for us for making the movie. He feels like a punishment.”
No other land, which won the Oscar this year for the best documentary, tells the struggle of the residents of the Masafer Yatta area to prevent the Israeli army from demolishing its villages.
Ballal and Adra, both of Masafar Yatta, made the joint Palestin-Israeli production with the Israeli directors Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor.
The film has won a series of international awards, starting at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2024.
He has also drawn anger in Israel and abroad.
Adra said the settlers entered the village on Monday night shortly after the residents broke the daily fast for the Sacred Muslim month of Ramadan.
A settler, which Adra frequently attacks the town, walked to Ballal’s house with the army, and the soldiers shot in the air.
Ballal’s wife listened to her husband be beaten outside and shout “I’m dying,” according to Adra.
Adra then saw the soldiers lead Ballal, handcuffed and with bandaged eyes, from home in a military vehicle.
Speaking to the AP on the phone, he said that Ballal’s blood was still dotted on the ground outside his own main door.
Some of the details of Adra’s story were backed by another eyewitness, who spoke about anonymity for fear of retaliation.
A group of 10-20 masked settlers with stones and sticks also assaulted the activists with the Jewish non-violence center, breaking the windows of their car and cutting tires to run away from the area, told the AP one of the activists on the scene, to the AP.
The video provided by the Jewish non -violence center showed a masked settler pushing and balancing the fists to two activists in a dusty field at night. The activists return to their car when you can listen to rocks that break against the vehicle.
Israel captured Bank in the Middle East War of 1967, along with Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem. The Palestinians want all three for their future state and see the growth of settlements as an important obstacle to a solution of two states.
