Oliver Stone calls for reinvestigation of Kennedy assassination

Oscar-winning director Oliver Stone’s 1991 film JFK has made President John F. Kennedy’s assassination work for a dark government conspiracy, and he called for a new congressional investigation into the murders on Tuesday, announcing the conspiracy theories at a hearing.

The House Task Force’s freestyle hearing on the revocation of federal secrets, aired partisan complaints, followed by thousands of pages of government documents related to the assassination last month. The Republican chairman of the task force began the lawsuit by asking the conclusions of the Warren Commission investigation that Lee Harvey Oswald operated alone in the deadly shooting of Kennedy, whose convoy completed a parade route in downtown Dallas on November 22, 1963.

Scholars say the archives ordered by President Donald Trump do not show the conclusion that the only gunman killed Kennedy. Many documents have been published before, but contain new revisions, including social security numbers, angered people who disclosed personal information.

Stone’s “Kennedy National” received eight Oscar nominations, including Best Photos, and won two Oscars. It had a box office of over $200 million, but it was also plagued by questions about its historical accuracy. Stone told the committee that he believes decades of delays in releasing unedited records prevented who killed Kennedy International Airport.

Stone also said a new investigation “at the scene of the crime” will begin “all political considerations” and a re-examination of all evidence from the day of the assassination. Scholars and historians concluded that there is ample evidence that the 24-year-old former Marine Oswald killed Kennedy alone.

“Can we go back to a world where we can trust that government is with us, and that government exists?” Stone said. “This is our democracy. This is our presidency. It belongs to us.”

Task Force Chairman Anna Paulina Luna of Florida said she believes the federal government under the previous administration is engaged in “stone walls.”

The task force also heard from witnesses convened by Democrats for criticizing the Trump administration’s handling of the recent release of Kennedy International Airport documents. John Davisson, senior legal counsel for the Washington-based Electronic Privacy Information Center, called it a “rush” and advised the National Archives and Records Administration to “simplely ignore” the procedures that protect people’s privacy.

Democrats on the task force followed up with his comments, criticizing the Trump administration for its various other issues.

“What I’m interesting about this hearing is whether the Republicans gave up on CIA agents here to lie,” Rep. Jasmine Crockett said.

Crockett suggested Congress should look deeper into the revelation, which is the revelation that national security officials have for messaging apps discussing sensitive attack plans and mistakenly added a reporter to the group chat.

The last formal congressional investigation into Kennedy’s assassination took three years and ended in 1978, when the House Committee released a report saying that the Soviet Union, Cuba, organized crime, the CIA and the FBI were not involved, but that Kennedy “maybe assassinated because of a conspiracy.” In 1976, the Senate Committee said that not enough evidence was found “just justified the conclusion that there was a conspiracy.”

The Warren Commission was appointed by Kennedy’s successor, and President Lyndon B. Johnson concluded that Oswald fired a gun at Kennedy’s convoy from the sniper perch at the Texas school book boarding house where Oswald worked. Police arrested Oswald within 90 minutes, and two days later, nightclub owner Jack Ruby shot Oswald in a prison transfer on live TV.

During Tuesday’s hearing, the task force also invited Jefferson Morley and James Dieugenio to write the book that debates the conspiracy behind the assassination. Morley is the editor of JFK Facts Blog and vice president of Mary Ferrell Foundation, a repository of files related to assassination.
