Hailey Okula’s husband, Matthew Okula, opened the last moment his wife had before her death with their newborn son.
On Tuesday, Matthew posted a video about the Instagram and Tiktok of the Nursing Plate to announce her death, just two days after she gave birth. After welcoming her son, Crew, via a caesarean section, Hailey gained an amniotic fluid embolism (AFE), a rare complication during childbirth and went cardiac arrest.
Now Matthew has expressed the first and last moment of crew with Hailey.
“She could see him for a few seconds, and I will always remember it,” he recalls during an interview with Fox 11 Los Angeles, which was published on Wednesday.
“We both looked at him and [it was] Just Hailey’s personality. She said something because she saw how big he was. We laughed there quickly, she had a little tear on her face, ‘he added.
From there, the crew steps out of the room with his newborn baby, after the doctors told him that they “finish” and that Hailey would be there in an instant. But just a minute later, he learned that something was wrong.

“The doctor comes in and lets me know that they are doing CPR on her. I make the decision: ‘Am I going to the ICU to be with my wife, or do I stay with my newborn baby? “He said with tears in his eyes. “Not the decision I thought I would make.”
During the interview, he also addressed how unexpectedly his wife’s death was.
“The doctors say it comes from a very, very rare complication known as amniotic fluid embolism,” he said of Hailey, who became pregnant by IVF. ‘There is no treatment, there is no way to diagnose it. It is so sad to think of other people that I have to go through now. ‘
According to the Cleveland Clinic, an amniotic fluid embolism “is a dangerous and life -threatening complication that occurs during delivery or shortly after birth.” The condition is difficult to diagnose because “the symptoms may be similar to other serious complications during childbirth.”
In his Instagram post on Tuesday, Matthew acknowledged how bad he and his wife “wanted to be” parents “after” years of infertility struggle and a long, challenging IVF process “, which Hailey talked about on her social media. He applauded Hailey for her courage and grace through “every obstacle” she faced.
“I will never forget the moment I broke and apologize for the toll [IVF] process would adopt her. She holds my face, looks into my eyes and says, “We are a team, and we will go through it together.” It was Hailey, “he wrote in the caption, containing videos of him and his wife.” A woman who would do everything for the people she loved. “
Matthew, who has been married to Hailey for 13 years, also celebrated her career achievements as an ER nurse. In 2019, she created new degrees, aimed at helping newly graduated nurses to start their careers.

“She was so proud of it and was committed to creating something meaningful, not just for herself, but for the nursing community she loved so much,” Matthew added. “She dreamed of helping new nurses to thrive while she was also present for our lovely crew, and build a life and legacy that she was so proud of.”
A GoFundMe has been set up for Matthew to help him navigate life as a single father while grieving the love of his life. ” Donations go to funeral and memorial expenses for Hailey, domestic accounts and aid programs, future baby supplies and childcare for crew, and Matthew’s time from work so he can be with his son. At the time of writing, the fundraiser raised $ 291,717 from its $ 300,000 goal.
“It’s not about charity – it’s about duty, about one of our own when He needs us most. As firefighters, we never leave a brother behind. As a community, we walk up when our family hurts, ‘the GoFundMe says.
After Hailey started with RN new degrees, Hailey became a beloved face in the online nurse community. She had more than 420,000 followers on Instagram, where she posted videos about an ER nurse and shared her candid advice on this field.
