Novak Djokovic gave an emphatic performance to seal his place in the Miami open final with a direct victory over Grigor Dimitrov.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion needed just 69 minutes to ensure a one-sided 6-2 6-3 victory against his Bulgarian opponent.
Djokovic, 37, is praying to land his 100th career title – a record of Florida – and his first since working with Andy Murray as his coach.
The victory in Sunday’s final against 19-year-old Czech Jakub Mensik-who joined 54th in the world,-Sou Djokovic with Jimmy Connors and Roger Federer as the only men who won 100 titles in a career.
Despite losing his opening service match, Djokovic rushed in 30 minutes to the first set after only two unforced errors in front of a crowd that included World Cup winner Lionel Messi, Argentina.
He never had the risk of losing the second – he was missing only six first in the entire game – while booking his place in his eighth final in Miami and his first since Shanghai in October.
Djokovic spoke to Sky Sports after his last four victory and said, ‘It feels wonderful. I didn’t think I would defeat my percentage of first services from the past game, but I did it and it makes life on the track easier.
“It was difficult today, the wind was swinging around and not consistent, but I didn’t drop a set in this tournament and I feel just as good as I have since the Olympics last year.”
Djokovic won his first ATP 1000 title in Miami in 2007, when he was just 19, and on Sunday he plays against a 19-year-old in search of his maiden title success.
Mensik hit 25 bait when he exceeded third seed Taylor Fritz to win 7-6 (4) 4-6 7-6 (4) in almost two and a half hours.
Fritz grabbed the only interruption of the match at the beginning of the second set, but made mistakes in the tie when Mensik discussed his first ATP Masters 1000 final against his children’s hero.
“It feels incredible,” he said about the face of Djokovic “it was a dream to play against him in Shanghai. For now, it’s a little different.
“I’m a better player and enjoying now and it’s going to be really exciting. Let’s see what’s going to happen on Sunday. ‘
