Norwegian snowboarder Oyvind Kirkhus made history last week on Nines in Swatch, Switzerland, landed the world’s first Switch Switch Switch Switch Sidex Quad 1620, a move against gravity that even puts its creators in incredible circumstances.
“I couldn’t believe it when I rode. I don’t think I really wouldn’t do that, but I did,” Coucus said.
For beginners, Kirkhus helps translate veneer jargon: “I’m going into the jump switch, unnatural direction, and then spinning backwards. Then I flip four times in the air and land regularly again.”
The 17th edition of the event turned the Swiss slope into a playground for ramps, rails and tunnels, with elite riders pushing the possible boundaries in the snow.

Oyvind Kirkhus landed in the world’s first quadrilateral 1620 behind the transition last week through the Swatch Nines event in Schilthorn, Switzerland.
New Zealand’s Luca Harrington is in a specially built large aerial jump, and the skiers offer only one of three switches ever made, the Triple Cork 1980 Escos.
“The jump that Swatch Nines offers us is absolutely incredible,” Harrington said. “We’ve seen multiple worlds first, triple, quad, so much stuff being put down.”
Kirsty Muir of England won the Best Female Skier Award on the Railway and praised the event’s supportive atmosphere to inspire a bold performance.
“Everyone is very supportive of each other and when someone does something, it’s hype,” Muir said. “When someone sends, you feel like you want to send it too.”
