In a selection of anonymous quotes, a group of parliamentarians from all over the political spectrum provides a view of what they deal with.
A study published today requested urgent actions in response to the harassment of parliamentarians from New Zealand. Researchers from the Department of Psychological Medicine at the University of Otago, Wellington invited all deputies who served in 2023 to participate and 11 accepted. They ranged from age, ethnicity, party (two green, five labor, four nationals) and experience, with five holding party leadership positions. None of the 11 parliamentarians is identified in the article, published in Kōtuitui: New Zealand Journal of Social Sciences on -line, but all were cited extensively about their experiences with harassment and abuse.
About who they receive abuse
