Newcastle chief coach Eddie Howe will miss the next two games of the club after being diagnosed with pneumonia.
Howe saw the 4-1 victory of the Magpies about Manchester United on Sunday from her hospital bed after being admitted Friday night, since she felt bad for several days.
Newcastle has said that the 47 -year -old will also miss the game at Wednesday against Crystal Palace and Saturday’s trip to Aston Villa, with the assistant Jason Tindall and Graeme Jones due to preparing the team in his absence.
“Newcastle United can announce that Eddie Howe is recovering at the hospital after being diagnosed with pneumonia,” reads a statement. “The club continues to extend its best wishes and support for Eddie and his family while continuing his recovery.
“Jason Tindall and Graeme Jones will lead the team against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa this week, with more updates that will communicate in due time.”
Howe, who sent her congratulations to the team after Sunday’s impressive victory over United, transferred them to the first four, offered thanks for the messages of support she has received.
“A great thanks to all those who connect with Newcastle United and the broader soccer community for their messages and warm desires. They have meant a lot to me and my family,” Howe said.
“I also want to pay tribute to our incredible NHS and the hospital staff that has treated me. I am immensely grateful for the specialized care I receive and, after a period of recovery, I hope to return as soon as possible.”
Newcastle will move about Nottingham Forest to third place if they avoid defeat against Palace in St James’ Park.
