Newcastle manager Eddie Howe recovered after being diagnosed with pneumonia, the club announced.
The 47-year-old man was taken to hospital on Friday after he felt bad for a few days and underwent testing the weekend.
He was absent for the Magpies 4-1 devils of Manchester United on Sunday. Assistant manager Jason Tindall – who stepped in for the Premier League meeting – said courts watched the match from his hospital bed, with Captain Bruno Guimaeres saying the team played for him.
Newcastle announced that the Englishman had pneumonia in a statement on Monday, adding: “The club is still expanding its best wishes and support to Eddie and his family as he continues with his recovery.”
Courts were quoted in the statement and said: “A big thank you to everyone associated with Newcastle United and the broader football community for your messages and warm wishes. They meant a lot to me and my family.
“I also want to pay tribute to our incredible NHS and the hospital staff who treated me. I am very grateful for the specialist care I receive, and after a period of recovery, I look forward to being back as soon as possible. ‘
Tindall and assistant coach Graeme Jones will continue on Wednesday and Saturday this week to take the lead for Newcastle’s accessories against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa, the club confirmed. It added that further updates on courts’ condition and return would be communicated “over time”.
Courts have been running Newcastle since November 2021 and leading them to an unforgettable victory over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup in Wembley last month to end their drought in the domestic trophy of 70 years. The Magpies are currently in the top flight, while performing at a Champions League place.
