Several prisons in France were attacked overnight, with reports of gunfire and arson.
According to Le Parisin, vehicles were set on fire in prison parks, while a prison in the southern city of Toulon was fired with an automatic weapon.
French Justice Minister Gerald Darmanin confirmed that several sites were targeted, with local media reports claiming the attacks were coordinated.
“Attempts have been made to intimidate staff in various prisons, ranging from burning vehicles to the firing of automatic weapons,” said Darmanin on social media platform X.
“I’m going to Toulon to support the officers involved. The French Republic faces the problem of drug trafficking and takes measures that will greatly disrupt the criminal networks. ‘
Prisons were also hit in Aix-and-Provence and Marseille, Valence and Nîmes, Luynes, Villepinte and Nanterre, according to Le Parisin. BFMTV reported that Agen was also hit.
Prison unions said burnt vehicles have been found out of prisons for several days, BFMTV reports.

Toulon
According to Le Parisin, the entrance to Toulon Prison was targeted by armed men at about 1am. The armed men fled the scene.
Gendarmes found that the door was hit seven times and several boxes of ammunition were left on the ground, Le Parisin reports. It is thought that no one was injured.
Marseille
According to BFMTV, several vehicles were set on fire in a street in the 13th district of the Southern French city, with ‘DDPF’ found.
DDPF stands for French prison law – the rights of French prisoners.
Le Parisin reported that a home known for prisoners in the north of the city was targeted.
According to the newspaper, two cars were burned and nine was sprayed with DDPF. It is not yet clear whether these reports are related to the same cars as those reported by the broadcaster BFMTV.
Valence
Someone on a scooter set fire to vehicles outside the Valence in Southeast France, according to BFMTV.
Meanwhile, Le Parisien reported that it was two cars belonging to the prison staff that were set on fire in the parking lot.
Nîmes
According to Le Parisin, vehicles in the south of the French city of Nîmes were damaged.
The newspaper reported that DDPF was also sprayed on the vehicles in Nîmes.
No further details have been given yet.
Luynes
As in Nîmes, Le Parisien reported the discovery of damaged vehicles sprayed with DDPF in the village of Luynes in southern France.
BFMTV also said cars were set on fire in a parking lot. No further details have been given yet.
The town is known for its prison and international schools.
