An MMA event in Sydney at the end of this month has been suspended based on police recommendations about concerns that a high profile figure could be killed.
Summan Mokhtarian has already survived an alleged gang’s blow, when an armed man opened fire outside his gym in Wentworthville.
The former UFC fighter and now coach says that the police have not given him any warning about the threat against his life.
The promoter of the event at Warwick Farm in two weeks said that Mokhtarian was never going to attend the event and that he should move on.
“Going from having an ascent to nothing is a bit wild, in my opinion,” said promoter Andrew Delmas.
The promising fighters are also disappointed that the event has been canceled.
“These opportunities are very valuable for combatants, because we can fight in front of our local fans, especially in Sydney,” said MMA’s fighter Farhood Khalatbar.
Police said they gave a recommendation to the Sports Combat Authority that the event should not proceed based on an alleged threat to life. The Sports Combat Authority accepted that recommendation and canceled the Warwick Farm event.
