Few Woo Lee held the late boom of Scottie Scheffler and Gary Woodland to win the Texas Children’s Houston Open.
Rory McIlroy shot a closing of 64 to finish fifth in a draw, but acknowledged that he had discomfort in his right -elbow while preparing for the US masters.
Lee went the final round with a four -stroke advantage in the final and stretched it up to five on the back nine.
But after Woodland and Scheffler launched their push, the Australian spotted the Par Five 16th to lead with a single stroke. He turned off two from the back of the 18th Green to claim his first PGA tour title.
“Of course, I had a lot of eyes on me,” Lee says. “It was one of the things I think everything was in line this week.”
Former US Open champion Woodland had 16th place when he set the clubhouse target at 19-under-PAR by tying the track record with a 62-second, his best result was, as a brain tumor was removed in 2023.
Master champion Scottie Scheffler, who tied the track record in the second round, joined him after beating four birds in a row of the 13th in his 63.
McIlroy, who needs late birds to ensure he did the cuts on Friday, continued his improvement throughout the week with a 64 to finish five strokes of the pace.
The world number two, which has won twice this season, revealed that he was upset by the elbow problem when preparing for his latest attempt to complete a career in Augusta.
“Get some treatment on this and make sure Augusta is doing well,” McIlroy told the Golf Channel.
Despite this concern, McIlroy, who chose six birdies and an eagle in a round with Bogeys at the first and last holes, focused on his final preparations for the first major tournament of the year.
He said, ‘It was a good week. I still don’t think my game is 100% under the control I would like, but it’s nice to have a week to work on some things.
“I got my coach, Michael Bannon, coming in tomorrow, so we work at home and make sure the game feels good in the masters.”
