The Head of the Meta Artificial Intelligence Research Division said he plans to withdraw, releasing a high-profile position at Facebook and Instagram’s mother company in intensive competition in the development of AI technology
Menlo Park, California – The head of the Meta artificial intelligence research department said it plans to withdraw, releasing a high -profile position at a time of intense competition in the development of AI technology.
Joel Pinot, Vice President of Meta for AI Research, said on Tuesday that he was leaving in late May after eight years with the company.
“Today, as the world is undergoing a significant change, as the AI race is accelerating, and as Meta is preparing for its next chapter, it’s time to create space for others to pursue work,” she wrote in a social media publication.
Meta – Mother’s Facebook and Instagram – DO NOT respond immediately to an email request for this move. Pineau did not announce a replacement.
Based in Montreal, where she is also a professor of computer science at McGill University, Pineau is the face of an “open source” approach of Meta to the construction of AI systems, with its leading large language in a large language called Llama, in which the main components are publicly released for others to use or change.
Her message came before the company’s debut at a new Llamacon AI conference on April 29th.
In 2023, she began directing the Meta AI research department known as Facebook AI Research, which was founded for a decade earlier than a group involving a pioneer researcher at the AI YAN Lecun. Lecun withdrew as the director of the group in 2018, but remains the main AI scientist of Meta.
