A powerful 7.7 earthquake turned a high buildings around pubble and people who chased out of their homes in Myanmar and Thailand on Friday.
At least 1,644 were killed, 2,376 people were injured and 30 were missing in Myanmar, the country’s ruling military junta said amid warnings that the toll is expected to rise.
In Thailand, Bangkok authorities reduced the death toll to six. 26 people were injured and 47 others are missing in sites, including on a high building that collapsed, the authorities said.
The earthquake hit a depth of 10 km, about 17.2 km from Myanmar’s second largest city of Mandalay, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The afternoon -temblor was followed by a strong aftershock of 6.4 scope, and people in Bangkok who were evacuated from their buildings were warned to stay outside in case there was more.

A rescue worker from Amarapura, an ancient city and now a township of Mandalay, told Reuters that the bodies of 30 people were recovered from collapsed multi-storey apartment blocks.
“I’ve never experienced anything like this before – our city looks like a collapse of the city,” he told the news agency, estimating that about a fifth of the buildings were destroyed.
The earthquake also brought a skyscraper in Bangkok, where at least eight people were killed, with a more missing scores. A rescue operation underway to save dozens of trapped workers.
Witnesses in Bangkok said people are panicked, and many of their hotel guests in bathrooms and swimming costumes while water comes from an increased pool in a luxury hotel.
