Since the league re-aligned in 2013, the Toronto Maple Leafs have finally added an Atlantic Division title to their resume.
The Maple Leafs won the title after defeating Buffalo Saber 4-0 on Tuesday night, which kept them from reaching the second-place Tampa Bay Lightning.
With the victory, the Maple Leafs confirmed their upcoming playoff rivals, Peche in the first round of the “Battle of Ontario” competition series against the Ottawa Senators.
They also won home ice in at least the first two rounds of the playoffs.
It was also a milestone night for a pair of Maple Leafs forwards, with Mitch Marner recording his first 100-point season after scoring in the third phase.
Auston Matthews then scored his 400th professional goal after the Saber pulled the goalkeeper to the extra attacker.
Of course, this is not the first partition title for the Maple Leafs name, and they now add the seventh banner to their collection. In the shortened season of 2020-21, they stand out in Canada – Professional Northern Section.
Before that victory, the Leafs won the division championship for the last time in the 1999-2000 season. After winning the Canadian Division in 1938, Leaf had 62 years between the division titles, but the NHL division was cut off from the 1938-39 season to the 1966-67 season.
