A man was shot dead by police after an incident at Milton Keynes Railway Station.
Armed officers were called to the scene on Tuesday after reports of a man who wore a firearm at the busy transport core, Thames Valley police said.
The officers rushed to the scene in Elder Gate and challenged the man before firing several shots.
Witnesses said police tried to relive the man and exported CPR for about ten minutes before being pronounced dead at about 13.44 hours.
Hever Marin told the BBC he was on a phone call in the station building when he heard the ‘very hard’ shot.
“So we went to look and the next thing we saw were two armed police officers to get medical equipment to revive the man,” he said.
“They’ve been trying at least ten minutes. But the man does not respond. ‘
The shots were fired at the station square outside the building and police placed a cordon in place.
A shop worker said The independent that a customer burst into his shop and said he had seen the shooting.
He said, ‘It didn’t really look. We haven’t heard anything, no shots.
“We saw the armed police swarm and everything down.
“Then a customer came in and said he saw a man being shot in the stomach. He didn’t say anything about the man who has a weapon.
“It’s shocking if it’s happening right under your nose.”
Residents in apartments above Milton Keynes Central Station reported that he had heard a single loud noise before a large police and ambulance was present.
Alan Brockbank, 70, said, “All I’ve heard sounds like something was dropped, it didn’t sound like a shot or anything.”
A large police presence attended about ten minutes later, he said, adding, ‘Then of course they were everywhere in the front of the building, and we could see the person lying on the floor and they tried to revive him. ‘
He saw a man receiving CPR brush compressions.
Mr. Brockbank and his wife Edith, 67, who were both retired, accepted that someone had suffered something like a heart attack.
Mrs Brockbank said: “There were all kinds of activities to get people back, there was someone trying to film it, police tried to tell them to go back.”
The man added: ‘It was only armed police with automatic weapons later. There were two of them. ‘
Shazna Muzammil, leader of the conservative group at the Milton Keynes city council, posted on X: “We are deeply shocked by the events that unfolded today at Milton Keynes Railway Station.
“Our thoughts were affected by everyone there and by that. It must have been a shock.
“Very grateful to the police and emergency services for their quick response to keeping everyone safe. Follow the guidance of local authorities and stay abreast of official channels.”
A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: ‘Thames Valley police and British transport police were called to reports of a man who wore a firearm at Milton Keynes Railway Station, Elder Gate, Milton Keynes.
“Armed officers of Thames Valley police responded and challenged the man before shots were fired by police.
“Life -saving actions were taken on the scene immediately, but the man was pronounced dead at about 13.44 hours.”
He added: “It is not believed that the public is a further risk at this stage.”
Police watchdog The Independent Police behavior (IOPC) office (IOPC) launched an investigation into the shooting.
A IOPC spokeswoman said: ‘We can confirm that we started an independent investigation into the fatal shooting of a man by Thames Valley Police (TVP) at Milton Keynes Railway Station today.
“We were notified by TVP shortly after the incident and IOPC investigators were sent to the station and the police -incident procedure to gather information.
“Our thoughts are with the family of the man who died and everyone affected by this incident.
“Our role in these circumstances is to investigate all the circumstances surrounding this incident independently, including the actions and decisions the police have made.
‘We declared an independent investigation at 14.26 o’clock. It is in its very early stages and there is currently no further information available. ‘
