Man charged after allegedly attempting to open emergency exit door mid-flight on flight from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

The Australian Federal Police was called to Sydney airport last night to meet an Air Asia flight that arrived from Kuala Lumpur, Malasia.

It will be alleged that a 46 -year -old Jordanian citizen tried to open the rear emergency exit door at mid -flight D7220.

The airline staff accompanied him to a seat located in the middle of the aircraft, however, he allegedly tried to open the medium emergency exit door.

The man was restricted by the crew and passengers, during which he allegedly assaulted a staff member.

Since then, the police accused him of endangering the security of an airplane and assaulting a member of the cabin crew.

He faces the local court of Parramatta today.

Crimes have a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.

The interim superintendent of the AFP detective, Davina Copelin, said that dangerous behavior on flights will not be tolerated.

“The actions of this man could have had tragic consequences, and passengers and plane staff should not have to endure rebel, violent or dangerous behavior on flights,” Copelin said.

“The AFP will not hesitate to take measures against people who participate in criminal behavior in airplanes, especially when this behavior has the potential to endanger the safety of passengers, crew or flight itself.”
