Police against terrorism investigating a fire in a DHL warehouse in Birmingham have arrested a man on the suspicion that he is helping a foreign intelligence service.
The Metropolitan police said that a 38-year-old Romanian citizen is being detained Stansted Airport after flying to the UK on March 19.

Police confirmed “a package on the spot set on fire” and it was then “handled by staff and the local fire work”. No one was injured.
It is clear that one potential investigation line is or the incident was part of a Russian-backed plot.
In November, Polish officials said they believe that the fire could have been a trial run for an attack that targets cargo flights to the US.
The National Prosecutor of Poland has confirmed that they have made four arrests after parcels “containing explosives” were allegedly sent via courier companies to countries, including the United Kingdom.
At the same time, Germans Authorities have also investigated several fires that were presumably caused by asset devices hidden in a warehouse in Leipzig in 2024.

Police confirmed on Thursday that their “investigative pages were underway”, adding that the man they arrested was “detained on the presumption of the assistance of a foreign intelligence service under the National Security Act”.
He was taken to a London police station and released on bail in July.
A DHL spokesman previously said: “DHL Express Europe is taking the mitigation of risk reductions to secure its network, staff and assets as well as customer softeners by implementing reinforced security measures in European countries as a response to continuing investigations by various countries.”
