Maddison Levi has become the most prolific attempt scorer in the history of Australian rugby, overcoming Sevens’s recount from his idol Charlotte Callelick in the Sevens of Hong Kong.
With only 22 years of age, the phenomenal athlete of Gold Coast established the new reference point on Friday while accumulating another seven attempts in just two games in the largest tournament in the Sevens World Series circuit.
While scoring a hat-trick at the 54-12 inauguration over Spain and then went through four more in the 26-15 victory against Canada, Try Machine Levi brought his account to 189 in just four spectacular years to eclipse the heroin and the brand of his 186 CivilLck teammate.
“Charlotte has been my idol and has been my mentor throughout all years,” Levi said, greeting his 30 -year -old Civilick teammate, who currently pursues his ambitions in the game of 15 and 15, hoping to play with Wallaroos in the World Cup at the end of this year.
“So that she can help me reach the level where I can play is quite impressive, but I really don’t care records.”
On a youth side, Levi, who has been out of action since he fractured his thumb in the Sevens of Perth in January, simply continued where he left him as the top scorer of the World Series in the new Kai Tak Stadium of Hong Kong, taking his account to 37 for the season.
The absence of Callelk also gave Queenslander Amahli Hala to make an excellent debut, scoring against Spain, while Ruby Nicholas, Isabella Nasser, Faith Nathan and Piper Simons also joined the Hat-Trick of Levi.
Australia then sealed his place for the quarterfinals with the Levi Force tour against the Canadians.
Meanwhile, the men of Australia had a mixed day, going down to New Zealand 21-12 in their first game before producing a much better performance to end the first day with a 26-7 victory over ‘blitzboks’ in South Africa.
Against the New Zealandes, Liam Barry’s team had 21-0 before they met Aden Ekanayake and Jayden Blake attempts.
But Co-Capitán Henry Paterson demonstrated the star in its next essential profit contest, crossing two attempts to help put them in an advantage of 26 impregnable points, while Matt González and Josh Turner also scored.
“We were quite disappointed with that first effort today against New Zealand, but we were not far,” said Paterson, whose side will need to beat Uruguay in his last game of the pool to seal a last place.
“Going out and fixing them against South Africa and establishing the rest of the weekend is really encouraging.”
