Taking into account the location of the market in an area seen as a center for locals and tourists, surrounded by tourist attractions and a large volume of pedestrian traffic, the IAM said that it has been promoting developments so that the space is more attractive.
Recently, the office installed airs and facilities without barriers in the place while gathering opinions from several sectors about the development of traditional markets.
At the same time, it organized a competition for local tertiary institutions in innovative business plans for markets to explore ways to revitalize the traditional market with young public members.
IAM points out that, for the moment, it will retain the supply of fresh and living foods of the traditional market while “makes the best use of the market design to create space to introduce the new elements that the community has been proposing.”
The office added that it will adjust the distribution of positions in the market and merge some spaces in areas of vacancies. Other efforts include the beautification of the building’s facade.
After all the optimization work, the Taipa market ground floor will continue to sell fresh and lively traditional foods. In addition, after the public tender, a new space will be created on the first floor to house light, cultural food and creative positions.
According to IAM, the smallest area is 8.1 square meters, and the largest is 30.9 square meters.

New positions divided into three categories
The 20 positions will be divided into three categories by area and size. According to the “public market management regime”, the tenants of the position will be recruited through public tender.
Those interested in the tender can write a bidding proposal based on their intentions, following the qualifications and requirements.
The Evaluation Committee will evaluate the proposals based on the operational strategies of the participants, the experience and the qualifications, the daily commercial schedule, the diversity or originality of the goods and the convenience of the payment methods, among other criteria.
The final winners will be granted a three -year contract during which IAM will monitor and evaluate the operational state of the positions. Those who violate the regulations or who do not comply with the standards can finish their contracts.
