A new poll shows that in the first week of the federal election campaign, liberals continued to lead conservatives among voters, but both sides were related to who best dealt with the most important issues: affordability and the cost of living.
The latest IPSOS poll is specifically directed at global news, showing that since the election began, the leader of the Liberal Party and the New Party, Mark Carney, has continued to work. Conservatives have also damaged the damage of the New Democrats and Quebec.
The poll found that 44% of voters will vote for liberals, a week after polls were taken the week before the election increased by two points. The Conservatives received 38% support, which also increased by 2 points, while the New Democratic support fell by 1%.
Now, the Liberals are leading by six points in this poll, down one point from their seven-point lead in the poll on March 18.
The margin of error in the poll was 3.1 percentage points, which was 20 times higher after all Canadians were surveyed.
24% of Quebec voters said they would vote for Bloc Quebecois, which translated to 5% nationwide, down one point from two weeks ago.
The Greens received 2% support, while 1% chose the BJP, which dropped by two points. 8% of voters surveyed said they are still unsure.
Meanwhile, Carney expanded his lead in Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre, the prime minister’s best choice for partisan leaders, with 44% of the choice being Carney, and 33% for poilievre. New Democratic leader Jagmeet Singh’s popularity has fallen by 4 points to just 8%.
Among the voters surveyed, Carney has a double-digit lead on Poilievre, such as being the best leader for U.S. President Donald Trump, representing Canada on the world stage and managing tough economic times. Liberal leaders are also seen as potential prime ministers, with the highest temperament and maturity of their work.
Poilievre, on the other hand, “only negative remarks,” IPSOS found – including what is seen as “hidden agenda”, as “someone who says anyone to be elected”, and “people on their heads.”
In each respect, Poilievre led Carney to improve by 11 to 18 points.
Trump, U.S. relations are seen as primary issue
Sunday’s results marked the third consecutive poll that led the Liberal Party on all sides of the federal side to a year-long poll deficit under former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Trudeau’s resignation in January and Carney’s successor election in early March promoted the fate of the Liberal Party.

As a result, Trump launched a trade war and repeatedly threatened to make Canada the 51st state in the United States.
These attacks have made relations with the United States a major campaign issue, with 30% of voters surveyed by Ipsos saying it was the most concerned – only behind affordability, while the cost of living was 36%.
While liberals and conservatives are considered the best parties to deal with affordability, polls show that voters overwhelmingly see the Liberals as the best way to deal with our relationship. Liberals beat the Conservatives for 40 points on the issue.
According to the poll, the U.S. problem is older in Canada, aged 55 and older, which is a typical reliable voting group that also tends toward Carney.
Poilievre and conservatives saw their highest loveliness in Prairie provinces in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, while Liberals and Carney lead the way in seats in Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia, and Atlantic Canada on the Atlantic Canada.
Despite the changes in wealth of liberals, polls show that voters are still divided on whether the party should get a fourth term in government, although the number of people who want change is declining.
Half of those surveyed said it was time to start a new party – eight points fell by eight points since two weeks ago – and 46% said liberals should be re-election, raising four points.
Voters’ overall view of the liberal government was also divided, with half disagreeing.
Other top election issues identified in the poll are health care (28% of voter choice), followed by housing (26%), economy (23%), taxes (18%), immigration (14%), unemployment and jobs (13%), and interest rates and currency (13%).
The Liberal Party is seen as the best party to address health care, economy and unemployment. Voters believe conservatives are best able to deal with housing, taxes, immigration and inflation.
The election will be held on April 28.
These are some findings from the IPSOS poll conducted on March 24-26, 2025. In this survey, a sample of Canadians with N = 1,500 eligible voters aged 18 years old was interviewed. Interviewed through an IPSOS I-SAY panel and non-panel sources of N = 1,000 Canadians over 18 years of age, the respondents’ participation was nominally motivated. Live-Inter-Interview telephone interviewers interviewed N = 500 Canadians over 18 years of age and cell phones through Landline and mobile and conducted the interview using random numerical dialing. Quota and weights were used to balance demographics to ensure that the composition of the sample reflects the composition of the adult population based on census data and provides results designed to approximate the sample universe. The accuracy of IPSOS polls includes non-probability sampling, measured using reputation intervals. In this case, if all Canadians were surveyed, the poll was accurate to ±3.1 percentage points, within 20 times. The credibility interval will be larger in the subset of the population.
