A liberal democratic MP was refused to have access to Hong Kong, where she would visit her newborn grandson.
Wera Hobhouse ends up at Hong Kong Airport on Thursday after a 13 -hour flight -just to be detained by security, questioned and kept a return flight to the UK, she told The Times.
She had to visit her three -month -old grandson and describe the actions of the Chinese authorities as a ‘cruel and disturbing blow’.
“My son was waiting for arrivals on the other side. I couldn’t even see him and give him a hug and I didn’t see him in a year, ‘she told the newspaper.
Ms Hobhouse is a member of the inter-parliamentary alliance on China (IPAC) and has voiced against Beijing’s alleged human rights violation in both Hong Kong and Tibet.
China previously banned other IPAC members, including Sir Iain Duncan Smith and Nusrat Ghani, as well as former Security Minister Tom Tugendhat.

Foreign Minister David Lammy said Ms. Hobhouse’s experience describes as “deep regarding” and says that “he” will urgently “claim” the issues with the authorities in Hong Kong and Beijing “will” demand an explanation “.
“It’s a lot to hear that an MP has been denied access to Hong Kong on a personal trip,” he said.
“As I made clear earlier this week, it would be unacceptable that an MP is denied access to simply pronounce their view as a member of parliament.”
It comes after Two MPs of the labor were denied to Israel Last week.
According to the country’s immigration ministry, Yuan Yang and Abtisam Mohamed said they intended to document the activities of security forces and distribute anti-Israeli hatred.
Ms Hobhouse claims that she has the ‘first MP denied at the arrival of Hong Kong since 1997’.
Her party leader Sir Ed Davey described the decision as “heartless” and “totally unacceptable”.
