A liberal democratic MP who was denied access to Hong Kong on a family visit said it should be a ‘wake -up’ for all MPs.
Wera Hobhouse told Sky News breakfast with Leah Boleto that she did not warn that she was on a ‘blacklist’ when she flew last week to meet her newborn grandson.

Ms Hobhouse told Sky News: “No explanation was given to me. And that’s what is so cold and really a wake -up call for any MP, because I had no warning that I was on a blacklist.”
She added that she hopes the government will offend “an explanation” and find out if there is such a blacklist and what it is that they do not like me. “
The MP said she suspected it had happened because she was a member of the inter-parliamentary alliance on China (IPAC). Although she said she was “no more outspoken than other MPs about the criticism of the Chinese Communist Party”.
“Therefore, everyone who is seen as standing up for freedom, democracy and human rights feels that they will be targeted by the Chinese authorities, and it is really cool,” she said.
China previously banned other IPAC members, including Sir Iain Duncan Smith and Nusrat Ghani, as well as former Security Minister Tom Tugendhat.
Sir Ed Davey, leader of the Liberal Democratic Democratic, called on the Foreign Minister to call up the Chinese ambassador in the aftermath of the decision, which he described as “heartless” and “totally unacceptable”.
In a letter to David Lammy, he asked the minister to discover “why a British MP and her family were treated in such a terrible way”.
“We are sure that you will agree that this is an in -depth situation,” Sir Ed said.
“The UK cannot allow the Chinese government to try to undermine our democracy by intimidating our MPs.”

Mr. Lammy had previously described the experience of Ms Hobhouse as ‘deep concerning’ and said that he ‘will’ urgently ‘claim the issues with the authorities in Hong Kong and Beijing’.
Treasury Minister James Murray also spoke to the government on Monday, and it also described it as “many concerns”, adding that “it would clearly not be to prevent a British MP from entering just another country based on what they said”.
He said the UK should be ‘pragmatic and clear’ about the situation, and ‘there are different ways we work with China’.

Yuan Yang and Abtisam Mohamed were deported out of the country because of comments they made about the conflict in Gaza.
According to the Israeli Ministry of Immigration, they intend to document the activities of security forces and distribute anti-Israeli hatred.
