The event organizer, Richie Lambert, said it was the largest number of entries so far, and noted that “some” swimmers have traveled from Australia for the event.
In the 4 km swim “The Legend”, Nick Frost was the overall winner, in a time of 55 minutes and 45 seconds, closely followed by winner Erika Ikeda (57:24).
In swimming of 2 km “The Beacon”, which started and ended in Queenstown Bay, Sammy Burke was the overall winner in 30:28, while Tennant Scott Wilson won the men’s category at 33:22.
Queenstown Billie Druett won the 1 km “The Bay Swim” at 16:43 – Oscar Cowdell won the men’s category at 19:50.
In addition, about 60 competitors tested their value in the Triple Challenge, in which they participated in the three swims, for a total of 7 km.
“Some of them would have a long recovery between the events, just because they are very fast and others had seconds,” said Lambert.
Alex Dunkley, by Auckland, successfully defended his overall title, clearing the 4 km at 49:05, the 2 km at 24:15 and the 1 km at 13:34, while Abbey Smale, also from Auckland, was the second year’s overall winner, ending events at 52:08, 25:37 and 13:30.
