A child who died after being hit by a car on a sports field was a ten -year -old girl, police said.
Officers were called at Kendal Rugby Club shortly before 5pm Wednesday.
A second child, an eight -year -old girl, also from Kendal, was taken to the hospital, with injuries said he was not life -threatening.
The manager of a black BMW i40, a 40-year-old man from Lancaster, have been arrested On suspicion that he had caused death by dangerous management and remained in the detention of the police.
In a statement, Cumbria police said: “There is no indication at the moment that this incident was a deliberate act.”

“A response for multi-agencies will continue to support people affected by this incident today. ‘
Players and coaches of Kendal United Football Club were witness to the ‘horrific event’.
In a statement, the club said: “This afternoon a tragic event took place at Kendal Rugby Club.
‘Our thoughts and prayers are with the families involved at this terrible sad time.
“We know that some players and coaches from Kendal United have seen this horrific event, and as a club we will ask someone who is affected to contact the committee who will provide support and assistance at this incredible sad time where necessary.”
Kendal Rugby Club said: ‘We are very sad to confirm that an incident happened at the Kendal Rugby Club today, which led to a tragic loss of the child’s life.
‘Our thoughts are with their family and friends and we kindly ask for privacy for everyone involved in this difficult time.
“We work fully with the authorities while doing their investigation – the club and all facilities are temporarily closed while performing.”
MP Tim Farron, whose constituency Kendal includes, said the community was “stunned and in mourning”.
“It’s devastating, extremely heartbreaking news,” he said on X. “I pray for the children and for their families and friends.
“Our community in Kendal is stunned and in mourning.”
