A 69 -year -old woman was treated by depression in her home when she really had a stroke.
Kauri Lodge, in Kaeo, was criticized for taking care of his women by the Health and Disability Commission, being informed that he should have heard his family more.
In his report, AGED Care Commissioner Carolyn Cooper said the woman – known as Mrs. A – was happy, happy and settled at home.
She used a hiking structure to move around the house to see friends, visited the family and was described as an “independent lady” by a team member.
But for a period of about three months in 2021, she deteriorated quickly and died.
Her family raised concerns that she had a stroke because of a loss of strength that had a limited side and speech.
But the team assured that she had depression and received prescribed anti -defenders.
The employees had noticed Mrs.’s loss of strength. A on your right arm and leg, your problems to speak, new inability to feed or wash and a very low mood.
But they have lost several chances of properly climbing their care, said the commissioner.
They knew her well and should know that she was not her usual self.
At one stage, she was found on the floor after having a fall, but “there was no GP record or involvement of the nursing professional,” said the commissioner.
His daughter was abroad and was concerned about the deterioration of Mrs. A after a call.
She raised worries and again a few days later, when she returned from abroad, she found her mother just able to say yes or no.
She and her father told employees who thought Mrs. her had a stroke, but when they were informed about the apparent depression, according to the report.
About a week after her family raised worries, Mrs. her was seen by a general practitioner who diagnosed a stroke.
He considered calling an ambulance, but realized that he was out of the deadline for clothing of clots, after nurses told him that Mrs. had weakness on the right side for about a week.
“For an ambulance to reach Kauri Lodge in an urgent call, it is usually at least 40 minutes and traveling to [a public hospital] where the decision is made for trombectomy, plus 2.5 hours and then transport to [a tertiary hospital]. The day when weather conditions were too poor for the transport of low cloud helicopters, “he told the commission.
It was at the height of Covid’s pandemic and he worried about her taking the virus.
Shortly after his consultation, Mrs. A was transferred to the hospital wing, where he died a few weeks later.
Commissioner Cooper said that Kauri Lodge did not provide the proper care of Mrs.
They should also have paid more attention to their family’s concerns, she said.
She told the home to train the team on how to better increase residents’ deterioration and improve their record maintenance.
Kauri Lodge told the commission that it had already made changes, including regular performance analyzes with employees and bimensal training.
Cooper also criticized the doctor for no longer taking tests when he saw the woman and for making inappropriate notes, but found that he did not violate the health code and disability.
