Vice President J.
Vances will visit the Pituffik space base, receive a briefing on Arctic security and will meet with members of the US Service.
Vance’s visit comes when President Donald Trump continues to emphasize Greenland’s importance for US national security, as China and Russia are increasing their operations in the Arctic.
Prior to Vance Trump’s trip, he discussed how he viewed Greenland as vital for US national security.

“We need Greenland for national security and international security. So, I think we’ll get enough,” Trump told reporters on Wednesday. “We need Greenland. And the world needs us to have Greenland, including Denmark. Denmark must make us have Greenland. And, you know, we will see what happens. But if we don’t have Greenland, we can’t have much international security,” Trump said.
The president made overtures to buy Greenland in his first term.
In a press release, which announced the visit, Vance said: “In the decades, after neglecting and inaction by Danish leaders and past US administrations, we have provided our opponents the opportunity to develop their own priorities in Greenland and the Arctic. President Trump has rightly changes the course.”
Energy Secretary, Chris Wright, who also makes the trip, told Fox News on Thursday that Greenland has been trying to interest US mining companies for years to develop resources there, as there is not enough infrastructure to make the mining economical.
“So the hell, maybe that’s going to happen,” he said. “I think this is in the best interest of Greenland and Greenland, and they have expressed this for years. If the United States can have the right cooperation, I think capital can run there, which would bring jobs and economic opportunities for Greenland and critical minerals and resources in the United States – profit for both countries.”
The idea of Greenland to become part of the United States is opposed to many in Greenland and Denmark, of which Greenland is an autonomous territory.
Initially, it is planned to make the trip to get acquainted with the cultural heritage of Greenland and to attend a national dog race before it is announced that the Vice President, National Security Advisor Mike Walz and Energy Secretary Chris Wright will join it. Later, the trip was scaled back only to a visit to the space base. The White House confirmed on Thursday that Waltz would make the trip.
JD Vance and Waltz are at the center of the scandal over the alleged conversation discussing the attack on Huthi Rebels in Yemen because of the commercially available signal application, which inadvertently included The Atlantic by Jeffrey Goldberg, which reported the conversation details.
Officials in Greenland and Denmark have pushed the visit Backagainst.

Reuters reported that Danish Defense Minister Triglets Lund Pulse called Trump’s Escalation statements in Trump’s rhetoric.
“These very powerful statements about a close ally do not respond to the President of the United States,” Pulse told Copenhagen reporters on Thursday. “I have to speak clearly against what I see as an escalation from the US side,” he said.
On Wednesday, Danish Prime Minister Met Fredericksen said in a social media publication that the United States is “unacceptable pressure” on Greenland and Denmark before an unwanted visit, adding that the two regions would “resist”.
The time of the visit was criticized in both Greenland and Denmark, while Greenland tried to form a coalition government after the parliamentary elections two weeks ago.
