Israel killed a commander of the Palestinian militant group Hamas in an air strike in the south of Lebanon, trying even more a high fire that stopped the war between Israel and the Hezbollah group of Lebanon.
The Israeli army said that the target militant, Hassan Farhat, was behind a rocket attack against the city of Safed in 2024 that killed and wounded several Israeli soldiers.
He promised to act against Hamas fighters “wherever they operate.”
A security source said Ferhat was killed along with his son and daughter in the strike in the city of Sidon in southern Sidon.
Hamas’ armed wing, the Al-Qassam brigades said Ferhat was killed in his department in Sidon, and praised his “blessed contributions” to confrontation with Israel over the years.
Hamas and Hezbollah are allies, and Hezbollah launched a campaign of cross -border attacks on Israel in solidarity with the Palestinian group in 2023.
Israel responded with an important air and land campaign in Lebanon in 2024 that killed much of Hezbollah’s leadership.
The Lebanese Prime Minister’s office, Nawaf Salam, said that Friday’s Israeli attack was a clear rape of a high fire backed by the United States that ended the 2024 war between Israel and Hezbollah.
The high fire has seemed more and more precarious in recent weeks, with Israel hitting the suburbs of southern Beirut and rockets controlled by Hezbollah twice and the rockets fired twice from Lebanon to Israel.
Hezbollah has denied any role in the recent rocket fire.
