Israel hit Gaza’s last functioning hospital on Sunday when the military announced the expansion of a land attack in the beleaguered Palestinian area.

The authorities of Al-Ahli Arab Baptist Hospital took off the patients after receiving a call from a person who identified themselves as an Israeli security official shortly before the attack.

However, one patient died during the evacuation because medical staff could not take care of urgent care. The Israeli attack took the hospital out of order, health officials said.

The attack on the hospital, run by the diocese of Jerusalem, came to Palm on Sunday, which commemorates Jesus Christ’s entry into Jerusalem.

The Baptist Church in Jerusalem said the warning to vacate the hospital barely 20 minutes before the missiles.

“We are calling on all governments and people of goodwill to intervene to stop all kinds of attacks on medical and humanitarian institutions,” the church said in a statement.

The Israeli army claimed that it took steps to harm the civilians before it attacked the hospital, which was further used according to the Hamas militants.

Photos distributed on social media have presented dozens of people leaving the premises, with some patients on hospital beds.

Hospital director Dr Fadel Naim said the emergency room, pharmacy and surrounding buildings were severely damaged in the Israeli rocket attack, which influenced more than 100 patients and dozens of medical staff.

A few hours later, the Israeli forces targeted a car in the Deir Al-Balah area in Central Gaza and killed six brothers and their friend, according to staff at the morgue who received their bodies.

In total, at least 14 Palestinians, including Khan Younis police chief, died in separate Israeli attacks across Gaza on Sunday.

The attacks come barely hours after Israel’s defense minister said that military activities would expand over Gaza quickly, and that Palestinians should evacuate the ‘fighting zones’.

The military announced on Saturday that it will soon expand “powerful” over the beleaguered coastal area as it has cut off the southern city of Rafah from the rest of Gaza.

Israel deployed troops last week to clean up a new ‘security corridor’, after which Morag, named between Rafah and Khan Younis. The Rafah municipality called Israel’s actions a “blatant violation of international legitimacy”.

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry and Hamas condemned the attack at Al-Ahli Hospital, saying that Israel was destroying Gaza’s healthcare system.

Israeli forces have killed more than 50,000 Palestinians in Gaza since Benjamin Netanyahu launched a war on the field almost 18 months ago, according to the local health ministry, run by Hamas. They have reduced a large part of the area to junk most of its 2.2 million population and to displace UN according to AID groups and the UN.

Israel launched the war after almost 1,200 Israelis died and 251 were held hostage in October 2023 during a Hamas attack in the south of the country.

A ceasefire that was mediated by the US earlier this year was broken when Israel enforced a total blockade on the entry of food, fuel and medicine in Gaza and renewed the deadly attacks.
