After 12 seasons of drama, the pressure to constantly serve tea is causing the show to boil completely.
This week, in the married, at First Sight Australia, a competitor came out after experiencing what they described as “the lowest of the lowest.” If you are watching, you would know that this descriptor could be applied to all the numbers of circumstances, whether Ryan bragging about other grooms about how Jacqui “gives a good head”, Eliot in a bad mood because she wanted a bride 10 years younger, or Jake Saying “I’m not racist, but I especially like Caucasian people.”
All of these low lows, and yet none of them were being referenced here. Instead, this was a 30 -year -old quote, Adrian after he played a huge Lala Sooky, because he was not included in a MAFS promotional shooting. Apart from his ring and demanding that the producers would put him on the promotion or him, it was another example of my work thesis for this extremely strange and possibly heel season: Prisoners are now performing the asylum.
Since its reformulation in 2017, married to First Sight Australia has no longer been a social experiment on wide -eyed strangers looking for love, and what emerged is something closer to a hybrid professional struggle and novel. “He climbed to four nights a week,” explained expert John Aiken at Spinoff last year. “We brought more couples, brought dinners and commitment ceremonies and then we sat down to see what happened.”
What happened, of course, was a crushing of classifications. To get the terms of wrestling, the dinners soon became the A-Show, where heroes and villains faced each other, the players from the part came from the shadows to the spotlight, and the red wine sprinkled as false blood. But under the theaters, the show has always kept its convincing human stories – the complexity of the can man, the Domenica Vs Olivia class war, the total absurd of Collins.
This season, this balance seems off – and not just because the cast arrived stacked with high and proud misogynists. I will start with the smaller production complaint than is not one, but two of the combined couples had already dated each other in the past. When Rhi and Jeff arrived at the altar with a smile of recognition and a sigh “Hi Rhi”, “Hi Jeff”, the “Total Stranger” concept was broken instantly. What is that, New Zealand?! Australia has 26 million people!
What didn’t even arrive on TV was the fact that two more participants slept together in the past, news that emerged from one of the dozens of MAFS Splashy gossip accounts that threaten to replace the show in balls and drama. This season even opened with an assembly of tiktoks and frantic coils about MAFS AU’s “global sensation”. Do you have to ask yourself: the pressure to serve “tea”, making the show boil completely?
Because while the best of MAFs is the slow deviation of the facades and the construction of tension and moments of liberation between personalities, the drama this season was explosive and relentless from the beginning, and we have seen openly fighting producers openly fight for someone to play ball. Several people left out of the commitment ceremonies that, although a totally false device, are still important to end stories and serve narrative justice.
Sometimes the drama has been so much that it has oscillated the incomprehensible. Jacqui and Ryan, some of the most disconcerting characters ever placed on television, hate the guts one day one day and are well about their future children next. Adrian and Sierah are clearly having a case, complete with their feet at dinner, and yet the focus remains entirely in promoting. The wrath of brunette scares me a lot that I don’t even want to mention.
The group’s dynamics are also very strange, with many of the competitors openly having fun with the drama (see: Billy’s reactions and clumsy) and no one standing out to be the moral compass of the Lucinda Light type. I wish you bring up again, but when Ryan told the bride and groom that “Jacqui gives a good head,” the group was fixed if it was true or not, not the fact that it shares such an intimate detail. Priorities, people!
Fortunately, Alessandra arrived in Dunk in Ryan for that, but the experts were extremely dull in their roles this season. John Aiken, famous for leaving the main strings with hard truths, seems to be lying in the corner of the expert sofa as an abandoned ventriloquist mannequin. Instead of facing unbridled emotional abuse and gases lighting, everyone seems totally exhausted and holding their heads in their hands like the rest of us.
What leads me to my final complaint: Why in God’s Green Apartment Sydney Astroturfed Earth, they brought back Eliot and Lauren to get married again? Bringing back the cast members breaks the fabric of the universe, but especially when you give the tradwife and the guy who wants a wife without aspirations beyond the “academy”. If someone deserved it, it was Katie – although not surprised if she never wants to get close to the MAFs.
The darkest part of all this is that if television reality sustains a mirror, which is being reflected in MAFs digitizes with our reality. We have the hierarchies in collapse, corroding confidence in authority, conflict and scandal overcoming the nuances and facts, and the worst men you have ever seen saying the crazy shit you’ve ever heard with little or no repercussions. We used to watch MAFS to try to escape the real world, but now it’s all there, shouting back to us.
And that, to lend an Adrian phrase, it can really be the lowest, the lowest, the low.
