Illinois governor seeks assurances from Joint Chiefs of Staff after Signal incident

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker asked the joint staff chiefs to give assurances to all countries and their governors regarding the specific steps taken to protect national security as a result of the recent use of the President Donald Trump’s administration reports.

The democratic governor sent a letter on Monday to the executive chairman of the joint chiefs of the staff Christopher Grady – received exclusively from ABC News – with a request to intervene on behalf of the safety of members of the service.

Pritzker said he was striving because he “lost faith” in the ability of the Secretary of Defense Pete Heget, one of the key members of the signal incident, to “maintain the integrity of our national defense operations.”

“I reach for you as the highest-ranking military officer of our country, as I have lost faith in the ability of the Secretary of Defense to preserve members of the service and maintain the integrity of our national defense operations,” the Prince’s letter wrote.

The governor’s service did not comment on the letter in response to a request from ABC News.

“Please describe in detail the exact steps that the Federal Government will take to reign in dangerous and outrageous behavior that compromises national security and the steps they will take to ensure that appropriate, safe channels, methods and protocols are used to protect classified information and secure communications.”

He said he was looking for this information, given nearly 13,000 military officials serving at the Illinois National Guard.

“Not only does the secretary’s negligence expose the life of the pilots by performing the operation at risk, but this put the life of troops around the world – including members of the service from the National Guard of Illinois,” Pritzker wrote.

“More than 1,700 members of the Illinois National Guard are currently located on a federal active load service through the president’s directive, so I can’t stand silently as their lives are at risk,” he added.

Pritzker, who was at the forefront to step back against Trump and his policy among Democrats across the country, has recently returned from a four -day trip to Mexico, which aimed to strengthen economic partnerships between IT and Illinois.

ABC News turned to Grady’s office to respond to Pritzker’s letter.
