Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker ‘not decided’ on third term amid 2028 rumors

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker said he “did not decide” whether he wanted to run in office for a third term and fueled rumors that he could make a run for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2028.

“I haven’t decided yet whether I want to do re-election,” Pritzker told NBC Chicago, looking forward to the state’s 2026-governing race.

The Governor has already raised eyebrows by skipping a pre-slipping meeting with the Democrats of Cook County, as preparations for the next campaign cycle are underway, rejecting the speculation about his motives on the basis that he had missed the event before.

“When I did it in the past, it was when I first thought about it [in 2018]”He said.

Pritzker has indicated a future bid for the presidency whether his absence may indicate that it remains “a possibility”.

The governor, a member of the wealthy dynasty behind the Hyatt hotel chain and a former venture cap, was a prominent critic of President Donald Trump during his first term in the White House.

He also played a prominent role during the Democratic National Convention of last summer in Chicago and was flown as a potential run for Kamala Harris before choosing his Minnesota recent Tim Walz.
