Iconic The Damned guitarist Brian James dead aged 70


Brian James, the iconic punk rock guitarist and founder of The Damned, has died at age 70.

The musician, who acted with artists, like Iggy Pop during his decades, died Wednesday (05.03.25).

He was widely recognized for his influence on the punk genre and as a writer of the first single punk single from the United Kingdom, ‘New Rose’.

A statement published in his Facebook account said: “With great sadness we announce the death of one of the true pioneers of music, the guitarist, the composer and the true gentleman, Brian James.”

Born in Hammersmith, London, on February 18, 1955, Brian was fundamental to shape the early punk movement.
