The witnesses of a fatal helicopter crash in the Hudson River in New York remembered that the helicopter was breaking apart in the middle of the air before sitting in a ‘loud accident’ in the river.
All six people aboard the helicopter were killed, including a Spanish family-of-five and the pilot of the helicopter. Agustin Escobar, CEO of Siemens, and his wife Mercè Camprubí Montal – also employed by Siemens and with close familial ties with FC Barcelona – died with their three young children.
The cause of the disaster remains unclear, with witnesses remembering that the helicopter in the air breaks apart before plunging into the river. Experts believe that a freak mechanical failure was behind the accident.
Bruce Wall, 28, described that the helicopter “falls apart, probably 15 feet before it actually fell, and then the tail knocked down” and heard the sound of “something breaking apart in the middle of the air”, according to the New York Times.
“The helicopter was still pretty hard and then just a hard, hard accident in water,” he added.
A nominated woman said that the “helicopter was a little nose off, it drank in the air” in quotes broadcast by BBC Radio 4.
President Donald Trump offered his condolences and the National Transport Safety Council launched an investigation.

Helicopter Charter Company involved with New York Crash leaving six dead had previous issues
The New York City-based helicopter touring business involved in the deadly accident on Thursday has previous incidents of aircraft malfunctions, according to records at the National Transportation Safety Board.
The company, called New York Helicopter Charter, has been operating Helicopter tours from New York City and New Jersey for over 30 years. The company ran the Bell 206 aircraft that crashed in the Hudson River on Thursday afternoon and killed all six passengers on board.
According to records with NTSB, the New York Helicopter charter was involved in two non-lethal incidents, one in 2013 in which the engine of a helicopter failed, while five people were on board and another in 2015 in which a pilot made a ‘hard landing’ while he was 20 feet in the air.

An aviation analyst told NBC’s show on Friday that he did not believe that Weather contributed to the helicopter accident that killed six people on Thursday.
“There was a kind of sudden inflow failure that occurred at the point where the pilot did not have the opportunity to make a forced landing or a mayday call, something like this happened suddenly,” Jeff Guzzetti said.
The analyst said investigators were looking at potential hardware problems that could contribute or caused the accident.
“We look at some kind of hardware problem that might have been argued by an inappropriate pilot reaction, which could be argued by something like a bird strike. We just don’t know, ‘he said.

‘Of course mechanical failure’, says the pilot of the same helicopter model
Dan Rice, who regularly flies in the same model of helicopter as the one that dropped in the Hudson River, said it was “of course a catastrophic failure” that caused the accident.
He said with CBS News: “Obviously, a catastrophic failure of the aircraft is very obvious. Tree and noises indicate some kind of mechanical issue.”
“There is one video in particular where you see the main component of the helicopter, the skirt, upside down,” he added. “And what struck me, which scared me, is that the main rotor system is gone.
“There is no main rotor on the helicopter. And the tail boom was also gone, and at that point it was just a vessel without direction. “
Rice said he “couldn’t think” that could have led to the tailer – the system that prevents the helicopter from turning out of control – falls off.
“We will wait for the investigation to give us the details, but according to what I have seen, the separation of the blades that caused this helicopter to fall. What led to the separation is what we need to find out, ‘he added.
