History is against the Panthers, but Ivan Cleary confident they can save their season

Penrith coach Ivan Cleary, always knew that a time would come when the ridiculously good way of his team that conquered everything was ran into some obstacles.

But I could not have imagined that it would include a five -game losing streak that has seen that the defensive structures of the Panthers fall dramatically and the hope of a fifth erosion of the Premier League.

Penrith’s defense has been the backbone of his four consecutive titles, his team 2021 took 17 rounds to grant 173 points.

Only six weeks after the new season, the Panthers have yielded 170, with only the eels placed in the background granting more points so far.

The generally methodical attire seemed nervous for the first time during his defeat against the Dolphins last week when their attack structures collapsed while pursuing points, but Cleary still did not give up in his season.

The mountain men will seek to stabilize the ship against one side of the roosters that surprised them in the second round to begin the loser streak, with Penrith still to recover from that defeat.

“We haven’t put anything like our game yet,” Cleary said.

“The things we can control are the way we train, the way we play and the way we prepare. Some of the things we cannot control, we just have to leave that.”

The Panthers have rewritten the registration books several times in recent years, but they will have to produce most of the story if things are going to change, without starting 1-5 with the title.

Cleary has not been able to put his finger at what went wrong in 2025; It does not help you have added to Jarome Luai and James Fisher-Harris to the list of players who have moved, but the coach hopes that the wheel will turn.

“If I knew that, I would have told you before,” he said, with the depth of the club, perhaps not as strong as it used to be.

“There are multiple factors (behind this), but at the end of the day, we just have to recognize that it has had an effect.

“We are in unknown waters. No team has done what we have done, so there is no reference point that is not reviewing it, and that is what we are doing.

“But it is important that we have what happened. There are certainly some lessons there, but we have not played the football style that I know we can. That has to be our goal to ensure that we understand it sooner rather than later.

“I am really sure that this will happen. I can’t tell you when he will, but I hope it’s early later.”

The veteran fullback Dylan Edwards will face his partner Blues James Tedesco on Saturday night, but the selection of origin is the furthest from his mind while trying to help his team return to the track.

“We are quite aware that there is a little work to do, but I have a complete belief in this group,” he said.

“We just have to continue coming here and trusting that what we are doing will work and things will change.”
