With less than a day, to go before the promised new round of President Donald Trump’s rates on April 2, which he called “Liberation Day,” the President has not yet revealed how much weeps will be.

White House press secretary Carolyn Levitt said the countries called Trump about the upcoming tariffs, but did not provide details about which countries or how much he had been talking.
“I don’t have a specific number, but I can tell you that there were quite a few countries that called the president and called his team in discussion about these rates,” Levit said
Administration employees also publicly talked about tariffs for about 15% of countries with the largest trade imbalances with the United States
The last details have not yet been placed in stone, the sources said. Levitt said on Tuesday that the president is currently working with his team, “refining him to make sure it is a perfect deal for the American people and the American worker.”
Trump sometimes belittles the range of tariffs. Last week, he said that his reciprocal tariffs would be “very condescending … In many cases, less than the tariff that has been charging us for decades” and that people will be “very pleasantly surprised.”

Whatever tariffs are, the Trump administration believes that they will have a complete positive effect on the US economy, including preventing other countries from “detaching” the United States, and the administration also insists that tariffs will strengthen internal industries and jobs, convincing companies to produce in the United States rather than bringing goods from abroad.
Tariffs can be used as a negotiating tool for other countries to break up on illegal immigration and the flow of drugs in the United States, according to Trump, a justification that has indicated in its decision to collect tariffs against Canada, Mexico and China.
The president has also declared the tariffs as a way of generating revenue and helping to balance the budget.

However, many experts note that some of these goals are controversial and cannot be achieved at the same time. They further warn that tariffs risk directing the United States into a recession.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney also told reporters on Tuesday that they would “introduce revenge” if Trump imposes “additional measures” against Canada.
The reciprocal tariffs that Trump has to announce on Wednesday are in addition to 25% tariffs for imported vehicles that will come into force on Thursday. Last month, Trump announced 25% tariffs for imports of aluminum and steel.
