Greenland’s prime minister opposed US President Donald Trump’s claims on Sunday, saying the United States would control island territory.

Greenland is a huge and resource-rich island in the Atlantic Ocean and is the autonomous territory of Denmark, a NATO ally of the United States. Trump wants to annex the territory, claiming it is for national security purposes.

“President Trump said the United States will get Greenland. Let me know: We won’t belong to anyone else.”

Nielsen’s post comes the day after the U.S. president told NBC News that military forces were not gaining Greenland.

In an interview Saturday, Trump allowed “I don’t think there is a possibility that we can do this in situations without military power.”

“It’s world peace, it’s international security, but he added: “I took nothing.” ”

Greenland residents and politicians are angry at Trump’s repeated suggestions, and Danish leaders have also postponed it.

Trump also said, “I don’t care.”
