Tourism and Hospitality Minister Louise Upston made the announcement with first -first -minister Christopher Luxon in Auckland this afternoon, where the duo visited Weta Workshop Workshop.
The service sector in New Zealand – which includes tourism, retail and hospitality – has been struggling to recover and gain strength in recent months.
Upston said the government was tirelessly focused on economic growth and data showed that tourism would play a leadership role from now on.
“Today I am pleased to announce an investment of $ 13.5 million for tourism in New Zealand to encourage more international visitors in various markets.
“Encouraging more visitors means more people in our hotels, eating on our coffees, spending in our stores and visiting our attractions, creating jobs and boosting economic growth.”
The initial investment would focus on encouraging visitors from China, Australia, the United States, India, Germany and South Korea, said Upston.
“We know international marketing work, with about 14% of international vacation visitors being directly influenced by Tourism NZ marketing activity.
“We have encouraging signs of our ‘everyone must go!’ Campaign focused on Australia, but we won’t stop there.
“2025 is our chance to reinforce the value of tourism and show what our vibrant and buzzing country has on display. New Zealand Tourism is open to business.”
Upston said it was estimated that the $ 13.5 million investment would result in 23,000 extra international visitors by the end of March 2026, bringing additional $ 100 million.
In February, the government announced a US $ 30 million expense on tourism and biodiversity infrastructure projects in the country.
Specific campaigns will be announced as they are developed throughout this year.
