GOP Sen. Grassley pressed about Trump, tariffs and the rule of law at town hall

“Why won’t you do your job, Senator?”

This stood only in a small building of the City Hall in Fort Madison, Iowa, where the voters poured on the sidewalk a chance to talk to Iowa Chuck Chuck Crusli, pressing him to their fears with the Trump administration’s deportation operation.

Many of the audience expressed fears about the refusal of the Trump administration to comply with the court orders to facilitate the release of Kilmar Abrego Garcia from a prison in El Salvador, claiming that the Congress did not adequately provide the rulings and the balances of the Trump administration.

“You will return this man from El Salvador?” called a member of the audience.

“This is not the power of Congress,” Grassli replied.

“El Salvador is an independent country … The president of this country is not subject to our Supreme Court in the United States,” he added later.

You could hear a strong moan from a woman before a man shouted, “I’m angry!”

Grassley is among a handful of Republican members of Congress to hold mayoralties during their spring recess. The GOP leadership advised its members to avoid personal mayoralties after several members were quarreled in their native areas earlier this year.

In the city member of Grassli that the audience member asked, “We would like to know what you, the people, the Congress you need to take advantage of this dictator, what you will do with those people who have been sentenced to life in a foreign country without a proper process?”

Before Grassi could answer, other members of the audience called for the lack of a proper process.

“Trump does not obey the Supreme Court. He just ignores them!”

“You allow this to happen!”

During a report with reporters, after the mayor’s office was wrapped, grasie again tried to claim that the administration was not “responsible” for returning a Garcia to the United States if El Salvador refused to comply.

One reporter asked, “Do you have concerns that Donald Trump is heading to a constitutional crisis or has already reached one when he decides not to comply with the court orders to make plans for his return?”

“Well, it is not a matter of the president, following the court order. The question is the president of El Salvador to do what our Supreme Court wants to do? And apparently our Supreme Court has no control over him and he says he will not return it,” Grassi said. “So, if there is a constitutional crisis, it is not caused by President Trump, this is caused by President of El Salvador.”

“I would expect our president to act in good faith and I think our president will do this to send these requests to the President of El Salvador, and whether or not, and how the president of El Salvador responds to this president of Salvador,” he added.

During the mayoralty, the members gave known to Grassley that they believe that there is even more to deal with his concerns about Trump and his actions after taking office.

“Are you proud of the Trump vote, what he does in your post. Are you proud of everything you do right here,” one asked.

“There is no president, I agree with 100 percent,” Grassley replied.

“I didn’t say that – I said you were proud to be in it,” the composite replied. Grassi moved to another part of the room to answer a different question.

Grassley also tried to extinguish fears from voters about the impact of farmers in the country who can experience Trump’s tariff policies.

“My son has cattle, yes, and he works for regular work,” a woman told Grassley. “And I just wonder how the tariffs will affect someone like him?”

“It is too early to judge, if what I say will happen,” Grassley replied, saying that there may be benefits and disadvantages.

“This can also be negative, from the point of view, that if people do not negotiate, because there are many more countries than 100 who have come to the table so far … When you put something negative as a tariff for some country, they seem to revenge against agricultural problems.”
