“The idea is that we always want to keep in mind with our art that we glorify to God,” said Art Professor Dove Stedastast.
With painters, cabinetmakers, photographers, embroidery artists and more, Gloriavale has a variety of talented artists who use multiple media to produce works.
Mrs. Sted struly said she wanted to create a healthy pastime for her young people through art, with many Gloriavale artists using their free time to develop their own techniques.
In the years since the community hosted its annual concert to the West Coast community in Lake Haupiri, Gloriavale wanted to preserve the artistic skills that had built over generations, she said.
Participation in the MS Handicraft Fair each year helped them continue to create, and all the money earned through sales by Gloriavale is donated to the West Coast Multiple Sclerosis.
Last year, their scope expands and now they participate in many different markets and community events, where artists can also sell their work.
“This gives us a way to interact with the general community and bring them a blessing in some way,” said Stedastast.
Glorious Artworks presents many young men and women from Gloriavale who spend the leisure time creating.
Several young people have enhanced their wooden skills and produce craft work made with native wood mainly recycled, while several artists also produce paintings and portraits of pencil or coal to commission.
The exhibition also features embroidery and paper cards that killed.
• Glorious Artworks runs until April 26, with an opening night with the artists to be held on April 12, from 16h, with service from the Gloriavale community.
