Israel was accused of targeting aid workers in Gaza after the remains of 15 people, including eight medicines working for the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS), were restored to what the aid organization called a ‘war crime’.
The PRCS said in a statement on Sunday that the group, which came under fire more than a week ago, was attacked “by the Israeli occupation forces while performing their humanitarian duties”.
It is said to have also restored the bodies of six civil defensive members and one UN employee from the same area, while a ninth medicine remains “missing”.
It called the medicine and called them ‘tortured’ and said that the ‘slaughter’ is a tragedy ‘for humanitarian work and humanity’.
Despite their protected status and the Red Crescent emblem, the ‘target’ of auxiliary workers’ can only be regarded as a war crime, “the statement says.
The Israeli Military said on Monday that an investigation found that troops were on fire on vehicles, including ambulances and fire trucks approaching a post without pre -coordination and without headlights or emergency signals.
Several members of the militant groups of Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad are dead, it says.
In a statement, the IDF said it condemned “the repeated use of civil infrastructure by the terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip, including the use of medical facilities and ambulances for terrorist purposes”.
Israel’s army did not directly comment on the deaths of the red straw workers, but later told Reuters that it allowed the bodies of the area to be restored, describing it as an active combat zone.
The bodies are in sand in the south of the Gasa Strip in what Jonathan Whittall, Gaza head of the UN office for the coordination of humanitarian affairs is called a ‘mass grave’, marked with the emergency light of a crushed ambulance.
Mr. Whittall posted photos and video of Red Crescent teams digging in the sand for the bodies and workers lying on the ground covered with plastic plates.
Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) CEO Philippe Lazzarini said on Monday that the bodies’ were ‘thrown into shallow graves’ in what he called’ a profound violation of human dignity ‘.
In a statement late Sunday, the International Committee of the Red Cross said it was “upset” about the death of volunteers “who risked their own lives to provide support to others. It did not award the blame for the attacks.
The group went missing on March 23 after Israel resumed an overall offensive against Hamas earlier this month.
