Gabriel injury update provided by Arsenal ahead of Real Madrid clash

Arsenal got a big blow before their Champions League collision against Real Madrid after Gabriel was excluded for the rest of the season.

The Gunners confirmed that Brazil’s defender will need surgery on the hamstring injury he sustained against Fulham in the 2-1 Premier League on Tuesday.

Gabriel, who has played in the heart of Arsenal’s defense in recent seasons, went off with the injury in the 16th minute and could not continue.

Arsenal host Real Madrid in the opening leg of their quarterfinals in the Emirates Tuesday before the return leg eight days later.

The club said in a statement: ‘Furthermore, to replace Fulham on Tuesday, we can confirm that Gabriel Magalhaes sustained a hamstring injury that needs surgery.

“Gabi will undergo a surgical recovery procedure to its hamstring in the coming days and start his recovery and rehabilitation program immediately, with the aim of being ready for the start of next season.

“Everyone at the club will be fully focused on supporting Gabi to ensure that he is fit again as soon as possible.”
