Freezing rain warnings extended, hundreds without power as storm rolls through

The expected winter storm has arrived in eastern Ontario, where the power outage will affect hundreds of people in Kingston, Ontario, and dozens of collisions have been reported by surrounding areas and police.

Environment Canada said Friday that Friday was preparing for widespread power outages and dangerous travel as frozen rain hit communities from Bancroft, Belleville to Brockville.

It has since upgraded some area warnings and expanded it to Sunday.

As of Saturday morning, the agency had actively frozen warnings for Kingston, Belleville and Quinte West along Lake Ontario and warned the public that these areas could receive 5 to 25mm ice pucks or more, or more freezing points and wider power outages.

Dozens of collisions
