Emma Raducanu believes she raises the benefits of a relaxed approach after wasting little time to reach the last 16 of the Miami Open.
Raducanu produced a blistering performance to lead McCartney Kessler 3-0 in shape before the American retired from the match through an injury.
Kessler, who shot up the world rankings at 48 and beat Coco Gauff last month in Dubai, could not serve as the British number two dominated throughout.
Raducanu made headlines earlier in the tournament when she ended her coaching hearing with Vladimir Platenik after two weeks, because she believes that the partnership was not heading in the right direction.
It has so far been a difficult year for the 22-year-old, whose previous partnership with Nick Cavaday ended because of the bad health of the coach, while she was left in tears on the Dubai court at the time due to the presence of a ‘fixed’ man.
But after her performance in the third round of Miami, days after her victory over Emma Navarro hair first on a hard track at a top-10 player-feeling the 2021 US Open Champion happy and relaxed.
“I think it’s a different approach this week,” she said in her interview on the court.
“I think five minutes before the game I played Spike Ball with the team. It helps me relax.
“When I play my best tennis, I really express my personality.”
She continued: ‘I would say that I am a little free spirit, so I do not need restrictions or say what to do.
“I think if I’m really authentic, it’s when I play my best.”
She certainly did this on Sunday and recovered from her opening service match to win the next eight games.
Kessler could only win five points on her own in a one -sided first set and things did not improve in second place until she called to the coach after the third game and quickly called it a day.
Raducanu said: ‘It’s never a way any athlete wants to win a game. I wish McCartney a quick recovery.
“She’s in such a good shape now. Play so well. Play so aggressively. I wish her all the best. ‘
Raducanu will be back in action on Monday against Mirra Andreeva or Amanda Anisimova.
Elsewhere in Miami, Novak Djokovic moved past old rival Rafael Nadal and after a record 411 ATP Masters 1000 wins with a 6-1 7-6 (1) victory over Camilo Ugo Carabelli.
“It’s an honor to have another milestone, to have another record,” Djokovic said at Sky Sports.
“There’s always something on the right track, almost every time I play, and it naturally motivates me to do well in the tournament.”
David Goffin was unable to back up his dismay from Carlos Alcaraz, as he was beaten in three sets by US 31st Seed Brandon Nakashima, while ninth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas was knocked out by Sebastian Korda.
World Number Two Iga Swiatek eradicated a 7-6 (2) 6-1 victory over Elise Mertens, but Australian Open champion Madison Keys suffered a 6-4 6-2 defeat to teenage game card Alexandra Eala.
