Salt Lake City – The family and friends of the former US representative Mia Lav will gather on Monday in Salt Lake City to honor their life and heritage after she died of brain cancer in March 49.
Love, the daughter of the Haitian immigrants, was the first black refurbish chosen in Congress.
The former Utah legislator underwent the treatment of an aggressive brain tumor called Glioblastoma and received immunotherapy as part of a clinical trial. She died at her home in Saratoga Springs, Utah, weeks after her daughter announced that she was no longer responding to treatment.
State legislators and members of the public visited the Capitol on Utah on Sunday night to give their respect to an ark, covered with a flag of love behind the ropes in the rotunda of the building.
The public is invited to attend her memorial service on Monday morning at the Church of Jesus Christ of the Institute of Religion from Latter Days at the University of Utah. It will be followed by a presentation of honorary security.
The love, born Lubmy Burdo, was the Utah on the Capitol hill from 2015 to 2019. She and her husband Jason had three children, Alesa, Abigale and Peyton.
She was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2022 and said that her doctors were calculating that she had only 10 to 15 months to live, which she surpassed. With aggressive treatments, love lived about three years after she was diagnosed.
Love came into politics in 2003 after winning a place in the Saratog Saratoga City Council, 30 miles (48 kilometers) south of Salt Lake City. She was elected mayor of the city in 2009, becoming the first black woman to serve as mayor in Utah.
In 2012, after delivering a reasonable speech to the Republican National Convention, she closely lost an offer for the US home against the democratic acting. She ran again two years later and defeated a candidate for the first time with about 7,500 votes.
Love did not emphasize her race during her campaigns, but she acknowledged the importance of her election after her win in 2014. She said her victory has denied the Navy who proposed blacks, a Republican, Mormon woman, could not win a place for congress in an extremely white juta.
She was considered briefly a rising star on GOP, but her power in the party fell apart when President Donald Trump caught up. Love kept his distance from Trump and called him in 2018 for vulgar comments he made for immigrants from Haiti, El Salvador and some African nations. Later that year, she lost in the intermediate elections when the Democrats grew.
