Three people were killed in a house fire in a village of Northamptonshire who also injured three police officers.
Northamptonshire police launched an investigation after the fire was ripped through the former station house and listed in Rushton on Friday night.
Police, fire departments and ambulance services were called to the property at about 22:30 after reports of a large fire, which shocked the locals described as an ‘inferno’.
It was later confirmed that three people died in the flame, while three police officers had to be taken to hospital after the smoke. No further details of the age or identity of the victims have been given so far.
Images of the site, near heresy, show a large hole burning through the roof of the building, which is a former 19th century station and station master, according to the Historic England website.
One neighbor went to the Northamptonshire Telegraph: ‘It’s absolutely shocking. My son said it was on fire. There was a man trying to get in who was outside. It was just an inferno. There was ambulance, police and fire.
“I don’t know the people who live there, but all we can do is hope and pray. It’s just tragic. It’s just horrible. The whole town is in shock. ‘
Rushton Parish Council chairman Mike Brightman, chairman of Rushton Parish Council, said: “It’s a very sad day for the town and loses some of our residents in such a heinous way.”
MP for Kettering Rosie Writing wrote in a message about X: “I am sad about this tragic fire and my mind is with the family and friends of those involved and everyone in the Rushton community. Thank you to the emergency services that attended the scene.”
Both Northamptonshire and Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service police are investigating the cause of the fire.
The closures of the road remained in place on Saturday morning at Station Road between Desborough Road and Oakley Road, as well as on roads outside Station Road.
People are advised to continue to avoid the area.
