Two men were arrested for illegal possession of weapons near a suspicious criminal fire in a hunting business, and police are appealing to those who saw the fire to contact.
Detective Sergeant Simon Evans said the fire in commercial facilities at Great South Road – south of Alder Lane – was reported to emergency services around 1:30 pm on Sunday.
Fire investigators and police are now performing a scene exam, but the fire is believed to suspect.
The police from the region stopped a car with two men near the fire scene. A weapon was found inside the vehicle and the two men were arrested, a policeman said.
It was not clear if there was any connection between the arrested pair and the fire, they said.
However, the police would also like to hear from whom he saw what happened, who could get to them by calling 105 or reporting their site, in polyics.govt.nz/use-105 using the reference number 250316/3289.
Fire investigators are also working at the scene of a fire in Hamilton, which firefighters were called to about 1 am on Sunday. Police said Blaze was in a commercial building and there was nothing to suggest that he suspected at this stage, although he was on the same street as a suspicious criminal fire, which occurred last week being investigated.
A drought was declared for Waikato earlier this month, and North Waikato is currently under a forbidden fire station warning, which means no outdoor fire is allowed, and people have been asked to avoid activities that can generate outdoors, including cutting the grass or using electric tools.
