An emergency response is underway after a fire broke out in the engine room of a container ship in the North Sea, the Dutch coast watch said.

The Victoria L, who transported 19 crew members, was about 56 km (34 miles) off the coast of the Netherlands when the flames broke out.

Lifeboats were deployed from Scheveningen and Hook of Holland in the Netherlands and a coastgate helicopter was on a drilling platform in the area in the event that it was necessary for evacuations.
