In Bangkok, on the site where a mass of debris sits, rescue workers have the machinery they need, and the manpower to pull people out of the high building that collapsed.

And yet the progress on the site where an unfinished building was immediately destroyed was painfully slow.
All day we looked when cranes tried to move the concrete and steel to make room for rescue workers to enter.
Tide Banluerit, a volunteer rescuer, appeared in confused after 11 hours.
“I looked at the structure and the foundation looked strong,” he said. “But it’s not meant to fall in like dominoes and stack like pancakes in this way.”
But there is still hope.
